The Problem
A missing digital presence for theatre enthusiasts

Theatre is a deeply immersive and engaging art form, but before working with us, Break a Leg lacked an online presence that could reflect its dynamic energy.

Lack of structure

Information about upcoming shows was across social media posts, making it difficult to navigate.

Ticket purchase journey

Since tickets were sold through third-party platforms, users had no clear pathway to securing seats.

No dedicated actor profiles

There was no centralized space to showcase the talented individuals behind the performances.

No brand consistency

Without a website, Break a Leg struggled to establish a strong and recognizable digital identity.

Our approach
Transforming the theatre experience digitally

To transform Break a Leg’s online presence, we took a comprehensive, user-first approach focused on building a seamless, visually engaging, and highly functional website.

Research & strategy

We conducted a competitor analysis and user flow mapping to understand how audiences engage with theatre websites and what improvements could be made.

Information architecture & navigation

We structured the site to ensure easy exploration of productions, actors, and schedules, making each journey feel intuitive.

Immersive UI & visual identity

We designed an elegant and dramatic aesthetic, using rich visuals, bold typography, and brand’s colors to evoke the magic of live performance.

Mobile-First Optimization

Knowing that many users browse on their phones, we ensured touch-friendly navigation and responsive design for all screen sizes.

Discovery
Crafting a user-centered theatre experience

Revamping Break a Leg’s UX meant creating an intuitive navigation from scratch. We didn’t just build a sitemap; we carefully mapped out every interaction, visualizing each click and swipe from the perspective of theatre-goers eager to discover next favorite performance. Our goal was to seamlessly guide users—from browsing upcoming shows and exploring actor profiles, to effortlessly purchasing tickets.

We went beyond static plans. By conducting user interviews, competitor analysis, and interactive wireframe testing, we fine-tuned the site’s experience to hit that perfect balance between engaging visuals and practical functionality. Every step was designed to ensure users could easily find what they were looking for, making the digital journey feel as natural and enjoyable as an evening at the theatre.

Wireframes
Wireframing the spotlight: mapping the user journey

Wireframes became the foundation of our design process, shaping the way users interact with Break a Leg’s digital stage. These low-fidelity structures allowed us to test navigation, refine layouts, and ensure seamless content hierarchy before moving into the final UI design.By focusing on clarity and usability, we designed wireframes that mapped out the journey from homepage exploration to ticket purchases.

That is ensuring that users could intuitively access productions, actor profiles, and schedules. These wireframes were more than just blueprints—they were the first step in crafting an immersive, user-centered experience. They helped us validate information placement, user flows, and mobile responsiveness, setting the stage for the vibrant, engaging interfaces that would bring Break a Leg’s theatre productions to life.

Mobile-First Optimization
Enhancing the mobile version experience

Enhancing the mobile version experienceThrough our research, we discovered that the majority of Break a Leg’s users access the website via mobile devices, particularly when purchasing tickets. This insight made it clear that a mobile-first approach was essential for improving user experience and increasing conversions.

Optimized navigation

We designed a streamlined menu and intuitive layout to ensure quick access to key sections, such as upcoming productions and ticketing links.

Touch-friendly design

Larger, well-spaced buttons and touch-friendly interactions make it easy for users to explore events and complete their ticket purchase journey.

Fast load times

By implementing image optimization, and efficient caching, we reduced page load times, ensuring a smooth browsing experience on mobile networks.

Simplified ticketing flow

Knowing that users need a transition to third-party ticketing platforms, we placed clear CTAs that guide them effortlessly through the purchasing process.

Mobile-responsive schedules

The event schedule was designed with quick filtering and easy scrolling, allowing users to find and book performances on the go.

By blending user research, strategic content placement, and industry best practices, we designed a seamless, engaging experience that aligns with Break a Leg’s mission—to make theatre accessible, exciting, and immersive for all.

Seamless Ticketing
A frictionless path to the stage

A smooth ticket purchasing experience is crucial for theatre-goers, especially those booking on mobile devices. Since Break a Leg doesn’t sell tickets directly, we optimized the user journey by implementing clear CTAs, intuitive navigation, and a streamlined transition to third-party ticketing platforms. By ensuring a distraction-free, mobile-friendly ticketing flow, we reduced friction, making it easier for users to find shows, select dates, and complete their purchases with minimal effort.

Interface design
Designing a visually immersive UI

To capture the atmosphere of live theatre, we designed the Break a Leg website with a dark theme, inspired by the dimly lit ambiance before a performance begins. This choice enhances visual contrast, allowing the vibrant imagery and text to stand out, much like a spotlight illuminating the stage. The dark background also conveys a sense of elegance, mystery, and theatrical depth.

We wanted the website to feel modern and authentic, striking a balance between contemporary digital aesthetics and the timeless artistry of theatre. Instead of relying on traditional red-and-gold theatre motifs, we incorporated a sophisticated mix of blurs and lighting effects, creating a dynamic, atmospheric feel.

Some Motion
Micro-Animations & Interactive Elements

Subtle but intentional animations were integrated to add depth and create a more immersive digital experience.
